This painting began on a quiet weekend in Cornwall, where my family and I stayed on a small farm surrounded by fields, old stone walls, and sea air. One morning, just after sunrise, I noticed a rooster standing alone in the yard. He wasn’t strutting or crowing—just still, watching, as if he owned the place. There was something calm and proud about him, something rooted.
 
I took a photo of him in that moment—not as a subject, but almost as a character—and later brought him to life in my own style, layering colors and textures to reflect what I felt more than what I saw. For me, he became a symbol of presence, simplicity, and quiet strength.
 
This painting is about that encounter. It’s about slowing down, noticing small things, and remembering that beauty often appears when we’re not looking for it.
