The Story of the “Image” Series – Between Memory and Reflection
The Image series was born from a building—an old school in Gyula, Hungary, built in 1911. It had once held classrooms full of children until the 1960s. Decades later, it came into my family’s care, standing quietly for nearly 15 years. I knew it wouldn’t stay with us forever, but something in its presence called to be remembered.
Image 5 captures a moment of stillness. It’s the most serene piece in the series—almost like a held breath. The cool blues and softened whites suggest windows glazed with time, fogged not by weather, but by memory. It’s not about clarity, but suggestion. You can sense a structure there, but it’s distant, ghostlike, as if viewed through a frosted glass. This painting speaks to presence through absence—the weight of a place that is no longer active, yet deeply felt.
